Ground Couch
Here’s an exercise in breaking convention: take everything you know about couches and remove one thing. You sit on it, it’s raised from the ground, it’s got a backrest, and it holds multiple people. The word “couch” comes from the French couche, or “to lie down.” Alright, it’s not raised from the ground anymore. Is it still a couch? Sure, it is. Besides, people have been sitting on the ground since they’ve been sitting. We’re built with our own couch cushions. Okay, now that that’s settled, let’s crank it up a notch. What if it was cardboard? I hear Gehry’s Wiggle chair is surprisingly comfortable. But it seems like a lot of glue and material. So how about we waffle it? No adhesive, just notches. Low shipping profile. Now that’s a convention-breaking couch.
